Short answers to common questions, each with its limits. Where a manufacturer or a qualified professional has more specific instructions for your material or situation, those take priority.
How often is deep cleaning needed?
Read the requirements for the actual carpet. CRI gives 12–18 months as general residential advice, while Shaw's care page gives 6–18 months depending on traffic.
Those ranges are examples from different sources, not a universal schedule or a substitute for the terms of a warranty.
Does cleaning cure dust-mite allergy?
No such outcome is promised here. CDC describes a combination of trigger-specific measures, including bedding care and humidity control. Discuss symptoms and appropriate changes with a qualified clinician.
This guide makes no ranking of beds versus carpets as allergen reservoirs.
How long will drying take?
Ask the contractor for guidance that fits the actual method and conditions, and do not treat a general number as a guarantee.
EPA's 24–48 hour guidance is a mould-prevention objective for wet materials. The backing, padding and floor underneath also matter.
What if a mark or odour remains?
Stop escalating household mixtures and ask the manufacturer or a suitable specialist. A returning mark can have more than one cause, and its appearance alone does not establish a diagnosis.
This guide does not recommend a universal baking-soda, alcohol, heat or enzyme treatment.
What about rental machines?
Check whether the carpet manufacturer permits the proposed machine and method, and follow its instructions. A purchase or rental label does not establish compatibility with your carpet.
Is a stain protector needed after cleaning?
Not necessarily. Check what the carpet manufacturer's instructions and warranty say about protector treatments, and ask for the label of any proposed product. The stain protection guide lists questions to ask before agreeing to one.
How should a mattress be cleaned?
Start with the mattress manufacturer's care label. For dust-mite control, CDC recommends allergen-proof mattress and pillow covers and weekly bedding washing with complete drying. The mattress and bedding guide covers moisture and questions for a professional.
Can an air cleaner replace source control?
EPA explains filtration as a supplement to removing or reducing sources and ventilating with clean outdoor air. Choose and maintain equipment for the intended room and application, rather than treating it as a cure.
